Divination and oracle in ancient Ugarit

Abstract

This article aims to present the methods of predicting the future practiced in ancient Ugarit. The most obvious way was divination in form of hepatoscopy, teratomancy and astrology. In addition, one could turn to the oracle of deceased ancestors. Since this method has no equivalent in the dominant Mesopotamian culture, it was presented in more detail along with the first Polish translation of the ritual addressed to Ditanu, the ancestor of the Ugarit dynasty.
